Harley-Davidson stock sputters on third quarter earnings

By Antea Gatalica Harley-Davidson Inc. reported a 6.5 percent decline in third quarter earnings that fell short of analysts' forecasts, and said it would slash jobs to pay for stepped-up marketing. Shares of the Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer plummeted 14 percent, or $7.80, to close Tuesday at $48.25.

The 4-week moving average was 265,000, compared with a downwardly revised 267,250 reported the week prior.

UnitedHealth Group's earnings beat estimates

Labor department reports lowest jobless claims since mid-July

By Antea Gatalica Initial jobless claims fell to 263,000, a decrease of 13,000, in the week ended Oct. 3, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday. The 4-week moving average in the week ended Oct. 3 stood at 267,500, a 1.1 percent change decrease from the week prior.
