Ofsted 'lenient' of Jewish school say Secular groups

An official compaint has been made to Ofsted by secular organisations for showing "leniency" to a Jewish school in Hackney, which has a curriculum and behaviour code that strictly adhere to Orthodox Judaism. The teaching at Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls' School, which excludes human evolution, sexual education and the use of the internet and social media has been rated as "good" by Ofsted.

Alice Harrold reports on controversial Jewish school in Hackney which excludes topics from its curriculum which are "not in line with" the Orthodox ethos such as internet-use, the theory of evolution and sexual health and well-being. When Yesodey Hatorah's £14 million campus for senior girls opened in 2005, the celebrated event was attended by Tony Blair, Lord Levy, Gerald Ronson, and Richard Desmond.

Before Leelah Alcorn took her life in December last year she saved her suicide note to Tumblr and set it to post. The transgendered girl from Ohio stepped in front of highway traffic after her parents took her out of school and away from her friends online. She was 17.
