While I am sharing these lines today with you, my country is in a state of war. While all domains of life and public infrastructure have been hit tremendously, most Ukrainians take freelancing as the only opportunity to earn a living here. Obviously, the war has left us all in limbo.
While the grandfather’s clock is ticking slowly on the wall, the moral compass predetermines the extent of resilience through individual experiences. A peaceful country with huge potential, human talent, technological growth, and sound prospects of the European integration has turned into a ruin overnight.
On the 36th day of the bloody war with all its atrocities and horrors, I have much re-considered the whole sense of revival. Here in Lviv, a relatively peaceful city deep in the west of Ukraine, I watch devastating scenes of harassment, killings, bombardments, destructions, and devastations of millions of people’s destinies.
I arranged my debut as a novelist by writing a tale for young readers. The choice was not incidental at all. Back in 2015, I was not skilled enough to produce serious prose.
How would you feel once urged to escape your home in the wee hours? Would you stay calm underneath the sirens hooting over the blurred sky? Have you ever rushed to the nearest shelter to save your life with few belongings? And once there, you see hundreds of desperate eyes begging for a savior.

I recall 4:30 a.m. of the wintry morning of Feb. 24. That was not the howling wind or a sudden cry amid the night that had suddenly caught me unawares. The moment came as a lifetime shocker. My wife’s alarm reduced to: “The WAR! They are bombarding us.”
