Sarah is a writer, editor and communicator who enjoys untangling complex concepts and crafting stories (and visuals) that readers can understand and enjoy.

Sarah currently serves as the assistant director for content and publications at the University of California, Riverside. Prior to that, she spent three years as a freelance writer and editor including for the National Association of Science Writers. Before spreading her wings as a freelancer, Sarah spent eight years in higher ed communications and marketing as a science writer and senior public information officer at UC Riverside and communications manager/senior editor at Carnegie Mellon University’s branch campus in Doha, Qatar. Previously she covered health, research, and education for newspapers in Texas and Kansas.

Sarah's experience spans the communications spectrum, including media relations, publications, public relations, internal communications, marketing, and social media management. She earned her Ph.D. in molecular microbiology and immunology from the University of Southern California and master’s in journalism from Kansas State University. Her bachelor’s in biochemistry is from Imperial College, London.

Sarah lives in the Santa Ana Mountains in California, where she runs, hikes and bikes. When she’s not wrestling with words she’s usually chasing after her menagerie of furry and feathered friends. Her hometown is near Manchester in Northern England.
