Beloved Bushwick Venue Gets a Second Act

The newly renovated Alphaville in Bushwick was slated to reopen this fall, just not yet. Still, the owners flung open its doors in early August. "We needed money, so we just started letting people in," said Kallan Campbell, one of Alphaville's new owners.

La Pierre Percée

Perched atop the Matheysin plateau, the Pierre Percée (Pierced Rock) is a natural limestone arch, considered to be one of the wonders of the region. According to local legend, the rock is actually a petrified demon, the result of a bet between the Duc de Lesdiguières and the Devil.

This classic, little red train offers a leisurely and scenic ride through the French Alps. It's a relic straight from the Golden Age of rail travel. Built in the 1880s, Le Petit Train de La Mure - "Little Train of La Mure" in French - transported coal from the many mines throughout the Matheysin plateau to Grenoble, the region's capital.

The Party's Over

Led by artist Peter Missing, the band was known for trashing venues, spreading anti-gentrification slogans, and – according to the TV report – even had Satanic beliefs.
