Natalia Chamorro

Writer - Translator - Editor

United States

I am a NY bilingual writer undertaking editorial, academic research, and translation (Eng-Span) projects. I am passionate about inclusive cultural and educational content.

As an artist, I write from the intersections of literature, ARTivism, immigrant pursuits, higher education, Spanish as a target language, and life at and behind the screen.

I am a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literature and have over ten years of experience in higher education, lecturing Spanish language and literature classes (New York University, Hofstra University, Stony Brook University, CUNY, University of Connecticut, and Purchase College), researching and writing about Latin American and Latinx literature, arts, culture, social movements, and activism.

Cien cuyes, by Peruvian writer Gustavo Rodríguez, is a tragicomedy set in Lima, where apartments are replacing houses at an increasing rate, causing many to be left in the shadows and depriving a few of a valuable ocean view. For senior citizens, the vist

In The Beginning

Before quarantine, I had begun a new routine of lies. Lies to my body, to my thesis advisor, to my new boss, to my partner. Lies that held me together because I always had to hold on to something. Or better yet, I always needed something to keep me on automatic pilot. Until it all shut down. The news of the mandatory quarantine felt like a blackout. Unexpected familiar darkness. The silence lasted a few minutes. And when the light came back on, everything was not quite the same.

Reimagining Us
Salir a comer / Dining out

Brave Journeys: Beyond Accents and Silences

There is a fine quality of young writing that reflects on the experiences, questions, and challenges we all go through as we become adults, something many immigrant kids learn fast through unexpected family separation. The reality of the stories narrated in Brave Journeys/Pasos Valientes appeals...

Como en casa / Like eating at home

It's warm and light on the 8th floor of the library. Far from the park grounds, you can hear in the corner of your ear the solo of a sentimental saxophone. At this height, the emotive shouting of spectators in the park doesn't disturb the people studying in this illuminated room.
