I've been a freelance writer (and an in-house writer, and an agency writer, and a fiction writer) since 2006. I've written all kinds of material for a wide array of media. My more recent work includes copy for websites, blogs, ads, scripts and local flavor projects like Yonder Backyard Adventures, a collaboration with designer and photographer Tim Lucas, focused on community and culture, and adventure, in my hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. Click my YouTube icon below to see our work.

Some of my regular freelance work includes copy for clients of Robin Easter Design, based in Knoxville, and South Marketing Group, based in Morristown, Tennessee. I particularly enjoy helping local businesses and entrepreneurs find the voice that best communicates their message and unique contribution to the tapestry of vibrant communities in East Tennessee.

As the in-house copywriter for Cellular Sales, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, I developed concepts and wrote copy for radio spots, blog posts, email promotions, flyers, scripts and whatever else we could make to keep this nationwide company's brand voice vibrant.

Before taking on this role, I served as a content developer for ad agency Designsensory, which gave me the privilege of researching and writing for a fascinating array of companies and topics. Agency life demanded that my work stay relevant and polished, and kept my technical skills, such as SEO, honed.

My traditional publishing experience includes interviewing for, writing and editing articles for Marquee Magazine, Home and Hill and The Anniston Star. I've contributed to DemandMedia.com, which provides content for LiveStrong, eHow, GlobalPost and other sites.

I am always working on fiction projects. My debut novel, Haints, is an Appalachian magical realism novel. It's set for release in the fall of 2021.

Maker Exchange Website Copy

Working with RED in Knoxville, TN, I conceptualized and wrote website copy for the new Maker Exchange space. It was a challenge (and an honor!) to convey the uniqueness of the space, and how it highlights Knoxville's Maker community. As always, I'm so proud to see my words working seamlessly with RED's gorgeous design!

Updated copy for the iconic Spaces in the City hospitality company

Spaces are defined by what happens inside. I worked with Robin Easter Design and the owners of Spaces in the City to elevate and refresh their website copy, to convey sophistication and the unique dining or entertainment experiences awaiting Knoxvillians at each of the group's spaces.

Ad for Augusta, Georgia

Targeting millenials primarily, this ad showcases Augusta's eclectic, yet classic Southern foodie scene.

South High Senior Living

Working for Robin Easter of Robin Easter Designs, I researched, developed and wrote the content for Dover Signature Properties' recent project: South High Senior Living. I particularly love that Dover revitalizes neglected, iconic buildings to serve the important purpose of housing for seniors in need.

This simple flowchart is reminiscent of Wired's Chartgeist creations. I conceptualized and then worked with a talented graphic designer to make this.

Driver Banners for City of Augusta

Augusta is the birthplace of James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. The headlines for these four driver banners were conceived to play on the town's "funky" heritage, while showcasing the area's leisure activities. The client also stipulated that each headline work with the other three as a system, with a light-hearted imperative and cheeky play on words.

I am here early at The Down Home, soaking in the dimly lit, rustic atmosphere where I first saw Jill Andrews perform as part of the everybodyfields.

Home and Hill
Crumbling Superstitions

There is an old house on my family's farm working slowly on a manifestation of dust to dust. It is, in its way, an arresting structure even as it falls to the ground in slow motion.

Swimming Down Memory Lane

I wrote this article while in service to Clinch-Powell RC&D, to promote ecotourism in remote Hancock County, Tennessee.
