Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether—and Yoga

by Julie Balter I don't know about you, but it doesn't take much for me to feel out of balance. Sure, I have a regular yoga practice (most of the time). Yes, I eat healthy, breath mindfully, and meditate deeply (some of the time). Over the years, I've also experimented with Ayurveda, acupuncture, and daily affirmations.

5 Tips to Stay Zen in a Technological World

The art of mindfulness doesn't just happen while you're sitting still, sending love and light to the world. It's an ongoing practice of staying present and keeping things simple, one activity at a time. Around the time OJ was acquitted, I relocated from the urban inferno of Miami to a sleepy, southern town in North Carolina. I came there at age 28 for a new job with my company, where I worked as a union representative in the film industry.

Six of the Best Books to Inspire your Caribbean travels | NCL Travel Blog

When it comes to cruise vacations, I like to believe it's all about the journey rather than the end destination. This is why books that celebrate the cultures and lore of storied port cities are my compass, treasure maps, and constant sailing companions. Don't get me wrong: I love to geek out on travel guides, too.

Hiding Out With Kristy McNichol - AfterEllen

She was our Buddy and an Angel, both on and off camera. These were the names of Kristy McNichol's iconic characters in the TV series Family and the movie Little Darlings, but off screen, she emblazoned these symbols for every young lesbian in hiding. We just didn't know that she was hiding, too.

South Florida Yoga Escapes

Let's face it: Yoga is not your go-to gay fitness activity. It lacks the sexy sizzle of the pick-up gym scene. Its non-compete clause seems sissy-ish compared to, say, the women's roller derby team. Then again, yogis will argue it's an oranges to mangos comparison: a yoga practice is actually less sport and more lifestyle.
