It may have taken nearly 20 minutes, but U.S. men's basketball eventually found its groove Tuesday against Spain, despite a career night from Ricky Rubio. Team USA rode a 22-6 run in the third quarter and 29 points from Kevin Durant to eliminate Spain in the quarterfinals 95-81 Tuesday in Tokyo.

Lance McCullers Jr. and the Astros dominated on the road Friday night in Chicago in the first game back from the all-star break. McCullers struck out 10 in seven innings en route to a 7-1 win and seemed to get more comfortable as the game progressed.
When the Cubs came into the Bay Area on Thursday, they held a two-game lead in the NL Central. They had just swept three games from the Padres and looked to pad their division lead. By Sunday, they just wanted to get out of town with a win.

With their historic 154-pound unification match up on the horizon this weekend, both Jermell Charlo and Brian Castaño are focused on one thing: Legacy. "The belts are not on my mind. Naoya "Monster" Inoue's path of destruction through the bantamweight division continued Saturday night in his WBA and IBA title defense. Inoue (21-0, 18 KOs) finished off challenger Michael Dasmarinas (30-3-1, 20 KOs) with a third-round TKO after dropping him twice in the round, three times total.
For the first time in school history McNary has three state champions in wrestling. Ali Martinez, Josh Friesen and Max Blanco brought home state titles from the OSAA wrestling state championships.

3+2=1 It may not be standard math, but that was the equation for the Brahmas Saturday when they traveled to face the West LA College Wildcats. Three interceptions for the defense, plus two touchdowns from quarterback Jonathon Saavedra equaled win number one under head coach Carlos Woods.
Volleyball
It had been 15 years since men's volleyball hoisted a state title. Over the course of four sets Saturday night, the Brahmas changed that. In the CCCAA State Championship final, the No. 4 Brahmas found themselves opposite the No. 2 Orange Coast College Pirates, a team they lost to in straight sets back in February.
The undefeated No. 1 Long Beach City College Vikings pillaged their way through the state on the way to the semifinals of the men's volleyball championship. Twice in the regular season the No. 4 Brahmas met the Vikings, and twice they lost in straight sets. Thursday was a different story.
Across the street from a sandy Santa Barbara beach, the Brahmas (5-1, 13-5) kept their California dreams of a state title alive with a victory over the Santa Barbara Community College Vaqueros (2-4, 5-13). They now head into the postseason as the No. 5 seed.
