My name is Carol Darnell, and I’m a freelance editor and writer. I began my journey in 2011, diving headfirst into the world of tabletop RPGs, and I haven't looked back. As I like to say, "Forward is the only direction that I know how to go."
That journey has led me through over two hundred book projects for more than thirty publishers and individual authors, on game lines as varied as Mutants and Masterminds, Cyberpunk RED, and Fallout. While I may not have traveled far geographically; I've traveled far and wide across the landscape of the written word.
My work is a blend of creative passion and analytical precision. Before freelancing full-time, I spent over twelve years in a corporate role where I devised systems to measure and report on complex compliance metrics. It was a role that demanded a rigorous attention to detail, a skill I now apply to every manuscript, whether I'm performing developmental editing, line editing, proofreading, or crafting a custom style guide. I edit more than I write, but I'm emphatic about both.
With a Master's in Library and Information Science, I love the research and fact-checking that makes a good world feel *real* and allows the reader to immerse themselves into a well-crafted world. My current objective is to find full-time freelance opportunities where I can help creators and publishers make their projects the best they can be.
