Menopause and Mental Health

What I find very distressing is the helplessness women feel! They often don’t understand what is happening to them, why their mood is changing so much and why they are unable to control their emotions. These mood changes are due to fluctuations and falling level of hormones. Personal stress and lack of sleep often exacerbate these. BUT a lot can be done to help improve mood. It is important to identify it and reach out for help.

Rich pickings: a harvest-time foodie break in the Abruzzo

Abruzzo is a rugged region east of the Italian capital, which has for centuries been known as Rome's larder. And, as we head towards September, the next few weeks make a great time to raid it. It's soon the start of the olive picking season and the last summer tomatoes hang heavy on the vines.

How one night of rough sleeping changed my attitude to homeless people | Aliya Siddique

Homeless people are so easily dehumanised, labelled as "the other" and therefore not worthy of our attention. Yet with figures last week showing that more than 5,000 people are living on the streets, while 320,000 people in Britain are homeless and living in temporary accommodation, we need to urgently rethink our attitude to destitution.

Filling a Quota?

Working in theatre has opened my eyes a lot to diversity - or lack thereof might I say. There is such a lack of diversity yet when I was applying for jobs, every single application would contain a statement along the lines of; 'We encourage people who identify as BAME and/or have a disability to...

Medusa, Sadlers Wells - Review

Pros: The thought that went into the movement, the production, set, music, costume. Brilliantly executed, bringing serious topics to the forefront to force us as a society to address them. Cons: Although the movement was amazing to watch, at points it repeated the 'puppetry' physicality a bit too much.

Should all Theatre be colour blind? - West End Wilma

Should all Theatre be colour blind? BAME groups have always been under-represented in theatre. Statistically, 76% of ethnic makeup in casts from Broadway and non-profit theatres are Caucasian (AAPAC, 2015/16). When the producers of the West End transfer of the award-winning musical Hamilton announced that 'colour-blind casting' would be implemented, it prompted the question, should all theatre be colour-blind in order to promote equality?
