What Does Adolescence Teach Us About Social Media Culture?

Stephen Graham's new show Adolescence has swept headlines this week following its release on 13 March, with the likes of Keir Starmer and Sir Gareth Southgate discussing what the show teaches us. While the show has gained attention for its one-shot method, a technique Graham also employed in his hit film Boiling Point, the truths revealed about the...

Unfiltered: Lily Allen's Candid Journey Through Fame

Lily Allen rose to fame in the 2000s, instantly recognisable by her chunky hoop earrings, signature side fringe, and constant presence on the front pages of UK tabloids. Since the release of her debut album Alright, Still in 2006, Allen's career and public image have evolved dramatically.

Review: Road

Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★Walking into the Bedlam Theatre on Thursday night, one couldn't help but immediately feel transported to the working-class town brought to life on stage. And that wasn't just because of Bedlam's notoriously chilly temperature, which made it feel as though you were sitting outside on the road alongside the characters.

Your fave holiday rom-com icon: the Frazzled English Woman

As December rolls around, I have found myself repeatedly returning to my festive favourites to escape the mounting existential dread of finals. Inevitably, this includes Love Actually, The Holiday, and Bridget Jones's Diary, sparking the annual revival of the "frazzled English woman" aesthetic. In a year dominated by "brat summer" and acting "demure", I'm grateful...

The three books that changed my life

In the words of Rory Gilmore, "I live in two worlds. One is a world of books." My whole life has been shaped by my love for literature, a passion nurtured by my parents, who always made sure my sister and I had something new to read, whether it was the next Harry Potter book...

Director dive: The Genius of Greta Gerwig

"It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough." This line from Barbie encapsulates so much of what Gerwig's films are about-girlhood, childhood, and life. With such care and attention to detail in both her storytelling and characters,...

The Revival of the Whodunnit Genre

"It's a whodunnit. You've seen one, you've seen them all." Growing up poring over Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes novels, I always dreamed of solving mysteries. My birthdays often featured spy kits, and the whodunnit quickly became one of my favourite genres. There is something cosy about these crime stories that goes beyond their typical...

Unwrapping Christmas in Literature

If you're anything like me the festive season is already well underway- as evidenced by the sizeable dent in my bank account spent on Cadbury's Christmas Puds and the fact that I'm already on my third rewatch of Love Actually. After you've inevitably had to take out a small bank loan to cover a festive...

The Best Small Moments from the Oscars You May Have Missed

From unexpected fashion choices to red carpet antics and wholesome interactions, these small moments added charm to Hollywood's biggest night. Ariana's Look of Pure Pride Although I still believeWicked was robbed, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande stole the show with their breathtaking opening mash-up of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Home," and "Defying Gravity."

Review: Shrinking Season Two

★★★★ Contains spoilers for the finale of Season One. Whilst I loved the first season of Shrinking, I cannot say I was highly anticipating the second season after what felt like a jarring end, when Heidi Gardner, playing one of Jason Segel's clients in the show, ended the final episode by pushing her husband off a...
