Journalism engages the study and practice of mass communication in a multimedia environment. It prepares students for careers as reporters, editors, producers, and photographers in various forms of multimedia news.
The professional writing curriculum combines knowledge and experience with writing technologies from liberal arts, as well as a technical, perspective. Students apply principles of rhetoric, design, cultural theory, and creative thinking to professional writing projects in a variety of fields.
A major in linguistics prepares students to undertake the study of language in a rigorous, scientific manner. The major offers basic and advanced courses in the sound, structure, and meaning of language, and it teaches students the fundamental methods of scientific inquiry.

Energetic, 84-year-old Joseph Nowak of Cloquet is living proof that age doesn’t hold us back. A Duluth native, Nowak is still skiing the hills and cross country trails of the Northland. The former middle school science teacher holds a lengthy list of accomplishments from his skiing career across the world.
Changes are coming to the beloved light show, Bentleyville Tour of Lights, which calls Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park home for 35 days of the winter. Formerly a private light show that was hosted in the front yard of the founder, Nathan Bentley, Bentleyville will be adding several new character displays as well as more lights for the 2013 holiday season.
