United States of America

I am an emerging writer & photographer specializing in travel, local business, articles of historical interest, and heritage tourism. I’ve been called an “evangelist” for retro Americana, promoting the icons of mid-century popular culture to those who love them. My work has profiled a treasure trove of historic road trips, great old diners, vintage motels, glowing neon, classic trailers, abandoned gas stations, home-town theaters, bowling lanes, space-age architecture, and even exotic tiki. Road Food While Traveling On California Route 88

California's blue lane highways always seem to evoke a road trip, and historic route 88 certainly fits that bill. Route 88, also known as the Carson Pass Highway meanders through the High Sierras taking you from Stockton, past nearby Sutter Creek, once epicenter to California's Gold Rush, and eventually on into western Nevada.

Doumar's - Norfolk Virginia's Classic Drive-In

I've visited Doumar's probably a dozen times. In fact, it was among the first of the vintage eateries I ever patronized. My first visit was in the early 1990's and I make it a must-go stop nearly every time I'm in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

The Historic National Road (Route 40) Yard Sale

Picture a yard sale running 800 miles from Maryland to Missouri. Then, picture mile after mile of small vendor tables, church bake sales, and the occasional impromptu flea market. This is the Route 40 yard sale. Every year, this amazing event takes place around the end of May or first part of June.

The Broadway Diner - Baraboo, Wisconsin

The final tally was three visits in as many days. It would have been four, but our travels were taking us in a direction away from the diner on the final leg of our trip.
