Croydon commuters 'have lost confidence in rail bosses'

THAMESLINK and Southern Railway have said they cannot promise 'nothing will go wrong' at Croydon stations in the next two years as a knock-on effect of the London Bridge refurbishment. Steve O'Connell, GLA member for Croydon and Sutton, questioned the train operator's chief executive, Charles Horton, about the delays and disruption of journeys to the station in the capital, which is currently undergoing a huge revamp.

Number of Croydon home-schooled children 'doubles in last five years'

THE number of Croydon parents registering their children as being home-schooled has doubled in the last five years. Children being taught at home, formally known as Elective Home Education, has risen from 86 in 2009 to 190 in December - making up 0.3 per cent of the borough's school age children.

Barnardos critical of Croydon's record on homeless children

CHILDREN'S charity Barnardos has hit out at the amount of homeless children in Croydon getting stuck in bed and breakfast accommodation for longer than the law permits. The borough had 45 families with children housed in this temporary accommodation for more than six weeks at the end of last year, the third highest in London after Tower Hamlets (81) and Brent (77).
