Market, Write, Edit, Recruit, Repeat

In 2001, I quit my day job to write. Now my day job IS writing. Heck, I am an editor.

What I do best is market the University at Albany School of Business to a variety of audiences: prospective and current students, alumni and the community.

I am happy to steal and always attribute.

I write for print publications and the web. I Tweet. I Tumbl. I Facebook. I Instagram. I blog. I Ello but do not Yik or Yak.

I write about travel at TouristShellyB.com.

On the Front Lines of Digital Media

"Mad Men" it isn't. Don Draper would be baffled by the advertising world of the new millennium: LinkedIn, gamification, smart phone ads and Mediaocean, the Bloomberg of digital marketing. These four alumni: Bill Wise '94, CEO of Mediaocean, Neal Ostrov '10, Mobile Marketing Specialist, Bethany Hillman '04, Operations and Strategy Consultant, and Chris Muccio '90, Chief Technopologist, SFGI/Catapult Interactive, work in different areas of digital media.

Alumni Facilitate Student Placement

Alumni contribute to the success of the current generation of School of Business graduates by paving the way to professional positions. They do this through a variety of activities, from critiquing and reviewing resumes, class presentations, mock interviews and mentoring, to outright hiring.

Totally UAlbany: The McAlpines

The legacy began in 1975, the year Scott McAlpine's older brother Peter '79, '87 enrolled at the University at Albany. Scott '80 started at UAlbany the following year, earning a degree in math. Over thirty years later, the McAlpine legacy has grown as Scott's children Amanda '11, '12, Ashley '12, Alexandra '14 and Andrew '16, chose UAlbany, all opting for the School of Business.

Scholar Athlete Success

The spring of 2013 brings a group of stellar students who combine School of Business work with passion and skill on the sporting field. Athletes' days start early. They take morning classes to be free for afternoon practices and games. In the evening, it's study and then bed.

Faculty Profile: Sanjay Goel

Program Professor Sanjay Goel arrived in the United States with a suitcase and $500 when he was recruited for the undergraduate mechanical engineering program at Rutgers. Originally Goel had no interest in earning a Ph.D.

Albany's Amazing Public Art - GoNOMAD Travel

Family Circle
Garden Mommy

We live in a small city and tend a shady backyard the size of two Ford Explorers. Half the yard is covered in paving stones and the other half is grass. We buy sod each year, roll it out and water it. It lasts through mid-September and then inexplicably dies. My five-year-old thinks that grass is an annual that comes in rolls like toilet paper.

Gardening just for farmers? No way, sister. Even city girls like to get their hands dirty. I can’t maintain a manicure for longer than a day during the summer, but who cares? I get to put my hands in real dirt and work on my bad girl tan without leaving the city.
