Helen Carter

Northern correspondent at the Guardian

I have worked as a journalist since 1989 and joined The Guardian in 1998, working as a home news reporter in London. The following year I became northern correspondent. I'm a Visiting Fellow in Journalism at Liverpool Hope University, a judge with the 02 Media Awards in the north west and at the Portico Library's Young Writer's Prize. In 2005, I won an International Building Press award for a Society Guardian profile of Tony Wilson, the founder of the Hacienda.
