We aborted the SpaceX Public Scoping Meeting after about 2 hours as Nena got a coughing spell. We had gotten the gist of it, though, as the stern, expressionless, Ms. Stacey M. Zee, Environmental Protection Specialist with the FAA, had kept us all in line with admonitions about cell phones and "talking in the halls."

Rio Bravo works to beautify Brownsville

The association plans to create an Urban Ecology Center on the grounds - a facility they hope will serve as an "interactive learning laboratory," with community gardens, trails and nature and exercise activities, including free yoga. It will host an open house at 6 p.m.

Environmental group drives home message with biodiesel 'Eco Bus'

The tour kicks off at the Walmart at 7480 South Padre Island Highway on Wednesday and runs through Friday. From 3-7 p.m. each of those days, the Eco Bus crew will give presentations. Joe Boswell, Rio Bravo's outreach director, invites other ecologically minded organizations to come and advertise themselves.

Children celebrate Earth Day at IMAS

IMAS' annual celebration of the Earth's ecosystem emphasized a variety of exhibits that highlight how Valley residents and industry are polluting the Rio Grande. Museum guide Mario Alberto Lopez used a model of the area to show how oil cars leave on the roads, dirt piled high at construction sites and illegally dumped paint all taint water from McAllen to the Laguna Madre.
