Milk production in Russia expected to decline over next two years

A further 2% decline in Russian milk production in 2015 will follow a 2.1% reduction in 2014. A decline in Russian milk production for the next two years is being predicted by USDA. DairyCo reports that a further 2% decline in production in 2015 will follow a 2.1% reduction in 2014.

The latest supermarket share figures from Kantar Worldpanel show SuperValu is the only other supermarket to grow other than the discount retailers. The latest CSO figures show that milk intake was up for creameries and pasteurisers compared with September 2013. Domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers for September was up 5.1% on last year's figures. According to the latest CSO figures, the domestic milk intake was estimated at 523.7m litres.

Majority of butter in PSA scheme coming from Ireland

DairyCo report that since PSA opened in September, almost 17,000 tonnes have been offered into the scheme, with the majority coming from Ireland and the Netherlands. In the ten weeks since the European Commission re-opened Private Storage Aid, 19,677 tonnes of butter have been offered into the scheme, with the majority coming from Ireland and the Netherlands.

Bord Bia signs agreement with Chinese dairy association at Beijing seminar

The seminar is to raise awareness of Ireland as a premium dairy producer for Chinese buyers and consumers in advance of the abolition of quotas next year. A co-operation agreement between Bord Bia and the China Dairy Industry Association was signed today at the Irish-China dairy seminar in Beijing.

Cow feared drowned is found on island with healthy two-month old calf in her company after three months missing. After searching high and low for his missing cow back in July, Meath farmer Sean Kelleher feared the worst and assumed she had drowned in Breakey Lough, the lake beside his land used by the cows during the hot weather.

'It was upsetting for my kids' - candidates criticise defacement of local election posters

A CANDIDATE IN the local elections said his children were upset when they saw his eyes blacked out on some of his posters while they were driving to a football match at the weekend. Eugene Murphy is running for Fianna Fáil in Roscommon and is one of several candidates across the country who have had posters defaced since putting them up last week.

New research shows numbers of users has dramatically dropped By Aoife Mullen The number of teens using the controversial website ask.fm has dropped dramatically, research has found. A survey by the Irish anti-bullying service Bully4u showed that of the 40% of nine to 12-year-olds that had used the site, only 8% were still using it.
