Last weekend Sydney woke up with one hell of a hangover. On the first night of its crackdown on drunken violence, NSW police arrested 280 people as part of an Australia-wide operation aimed at reducing the alcohol-fuelled violence that spills onto booze soaked streets every weekend.
Residual enclaves of feminists have anticipated the third wave of feminism for years, in the same way Christians have anticipated the second coming of Christ and TMZ has anticipated Justin Bieber's public meltdown. Whether or not it is already upon us is difficult to tell, as social movements are retrospective beasts that are only truly recognised once they are over.
