Sydney Watson

Journalist

United States

Hi! I’m Sydney. I have always had a passion for writing, and being able to tell local stories.

I am a student at Coastal Carolina University with a major in communications and a concentration in interactive journalism. I graduate in December 2019 I have experience in producing, writing, and developing relevant story pitches based on the interest of the surrounding community.

I am a member of the Athenaeum Press and have had my research published at the Horry County Museum. The Rough Seas and Legacies exhibit is currently on display and discusses the impacts pirates had on the landscapes of the Carolinas. The research is also being considered for awards in the SEMC conference in October. 2019.

Fun fact pirates did not say “argh.”

I also write for the Chanticleer, the student newspaper at Coastal Carolina University, https://www.thechanticleernews.com.

I am currently interning with WPDE ABC 15 and hoping to go into the world of producing. I love staying up to date what is going on in the world, and following late-breaking news.

I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland, but have lived in South Carolina for the last four years. I love being near and around the water. On my days off, I like to go paddleboarding, kayaking, and hang out at the beach. I have not learned how to surf yet but it is my next goal.

As a student researcher at the Athenaeum Press, my research was published at the Horry County Museum in the Rough Seas and Legacies exhibition. The exhibit shows viewers the impact that pirates had on the Carolina landscapes during the Golden Age of Piracy.
