My name is James “Skip” Harvey and I’m a geek. Not just any geek, I’d like to imagine. I’d like to think I’m the kind of geek that represents the generation that got to see mainstream culture turned on its head and watched the Geek inherit the Earth.
My parents met at the planning committee for a Star Trek convention in Kansas City in 1976. I’m named after James T. Kirk, the “Skipper” of the Enterprise. This is in my blood. It’s who I am.
In 2010 I was honored to be a subject of the Morgan Spurlock documentary Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, where I started on a long and painful journey to become a professional comic book artist. Now I’m proud to announce my first book: Dilettante.
I wandered the Comic-Con floor, searching desperately for a credible (and cheap) souvenir for my good friend Joe. Joe's an old school fanboy of discriminating taste. He appreciates good writers over flashy artists, likes his heroes to be good and his villains to be evil, and he really, really knows his comics.

The issue of sexual identity in comics isn't a new one. From Northstar to the justifiably snide re-introduction of Kate Kane, to Apollo and Midnighter, this idea has been around for a while. Now, however, it's a hot button political volleyball and as gay comics creator and former DC editor Joan Hilty states, "a hot button issue that keeps evolving".
So, don't know if you're heard, but the internet claimed May 1st is Batman Day. The annual celebration of the Dark Knight is being honored all over the world officially on September 25th this year, but is it actually Batman Day?
