"Which of all my important nothings shall I tell you first?" -Jane Austen

Laura Breidenthal, currently a student at Pasadena City College, has been writing for a number of years starting at a very young age. Her first influence was her father, who encouraged her and her siblings to read and write often. Additionally, her older sister wrote poetry as a sort of therapy in high school, and her soulful, emotional work fascinated Laura into experimenting with her own feelings, expounding them into words and verses. Laura became more serious about writing when her middle school English teachers noticed her potential after reading some of her creative writings and poetry. Their encouragement and direction drove Laura to continue with writing and further improve her skills all throughout her high school years and to this day in college. So far, Laura has written approximately 300 pieces of poetry, one of which was published in a young poet anthology called Stars in Our Hearts collected all over the country by The World Poetry Movement. With a growing fascination of the Bible and spirituality, she is currently working on a dark Biblical epic written in free-verse called “Light on the Devil’s Chord”. The forms of poetry Laura usually writes are typically free-verse, though she has experimented in other forms like blank verse, haiku, sedoka, ballads, dramatic monologues and sonnets. Laura also enjoys song writing, music composition and constructing lyrics for piano and voice, in various genres such as classical, indie, and folk music. When she is not on the piano, reading, or constructing a piece of writing, Laura enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and traveling—these experiences out in the world among various people, nature and environments provide Laura a lot of inspiration for future compositions.

"But this I know; the writer who possesses the creative gift owns something that at times strangely wills and works for itself." -Charlotte Brontë

Special Note:

On my page you will find concepts of nature, love, light, war, darkness, and tales of the imagination. There's a long spectrum of emotions and experiences that have essentially motivated me to write words down in the first place. A lot of my poems have been inspired by real events and people in my life, the beauty of creation, spiritual incitement, and musings from my imagination. For me, imagination is inspired by the realities, impediments, philosophies joys and woes of life and very often our own dreams, passions and inner feelings. These feelings are definitely reflected in my work on a deeper level than many realize.

Through my work, you can have access to the brazen open door of my soul. That door lets in a wonderful breeze that I treasure with all of my heart and being, and that I hope you, the viewer, will treasure as well. With that in mind, I hope that you may picture your special people, your thoughts, experiences and ideas, and use those personal elements to overall enhance your read and be inspired to write works of your own.

"There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come." -Victor Hugo
