Clean-up effort removes 190kg of rubbish from Burdekin beach

More than 30 volunteers who joined forces to clean up Alva Beach on Saturday have been congratulated on their efforts. Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said 190kg of rubbish was collected from the beach in just a few short hours as part of Council's bi-annual Clean Up Australia Day event, held in collaboration with Tangaroa Blue Foundation, Ayr Surf Life Saving Club and Gudjuda Reference Group.

Forum to help Burdekin growers progress to being export ready

An export forum to be held in Ayr this May 4 aims to get Burdekin growers thinking about opportunities to export their produce into lucrative international markets. Following Burdekin Shire Council's participation in last year's Singapore Insights delegation, led by Townsville Enterprise Limited (TEL), the 2018 Burdekin Export Forum will provide growers with the latest information on emerging markets, international opportunities and supply chains.

Burdekin LDMG stands down following record Giru flood

The Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has stood down as floodwaters begin to fall at Giru. The Haughton River at Giru peaked at a record major flood level of 3.20 metres around 6.30pm yesterday and is currently falling.

Mt Elliot Springs confirmed as world's best bottled water

The Burdekin's Mt Elliot Springs has been voted the best bottled water in the world at the prestigious 2018 Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting event. Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the product used Mt Elliot Springs water, sourced from the Burdekin's own Major's Creek and packaged under the Australian label Frequency H20.
