Much ado: School associations slate ban on 'I am Malala'

Polio raises fear of travel curbs

KARACHI: With 73 cases of poliovirus surfacing this year, travellers to and from Pakistan are expected to face restrictions and guidelines by the international community from January 2014. Dr Ni'ma Saeed Abid, the World Health Organisation (WHO) country head for Pakistan, said that the three polio-endemic countries - Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan - risk becoming source of spreading wild poliovirus (that occurs naturally).

Falling standards of education: Nearly 500 students with A-1 grade flunk KU entrance test

KARACHI: Around 481 students who had passed their Intermediate with 'A-1' grades flunked the entrance test for admissions to graduate and postgraduate programmes at the University of Karachi, The Express Tribune has learnt. All in all, around 10,300 candidates sat the KU entrance test that was carried out by the National Testing Service (NTS) on December 22.

Breach of trust: Exams cancelled in 224 schools as papers leaked

KARACHI: The controversial 'centralised exams' for the girls' secondary schools suffered a major loss in credibility on Wednesday as the question papers were available to many students since Tuesday evening. At least 12 hours prior to the exam, the question papers for the grade six, seven and eight science exam that was scheduled on Wednesday morning at 224 girls' secondary schools across the city had been leaked out.
