Born in Khartoum and now based in Toronto, Ahmed has lived in New York, San Francisco, Buenos Aires, Oxford, Taipei and Singapore, so it should come as no surprise that one of Ahmed's passions, as a local in so many parts of the world, is learning languages and understanding people and cultures not his own.
Unlike France or Italy, Germany doesn't have a reputation for romance and glamour. The common stereotype is that of very direct people and of a language that sounds coarse and harsh to the uninitiated. Well, free tuition! Home to some of the world's best universities, Germany has offered free tuition since 2014.
Russia is the country of combined services. Restaurant chains often work in tandem allowing you to order Japanese onigiri with a side of Italian bruschetta, or Uzbek cuisine in a place that doubles as a sushi shop. The WHY is not important.
In the next five weeks, Prospekt Magazine will take you on a cinematic time travel with five reviews of popular Soviet tragicomedies. Alors que le tueur présumé du journaliste Dmitri Tsilikine a été arrêté à Saint-Pétersbourg, les médias russes continuent de taire les motivations homophobes du crime. Le site d'actualité pétersbourgeois Fontanka.ru rapportait le jeudi 31 mars, le meurtre du journaliste Dmitri Tsilikine, dont la dépouille a été retrouvée le jour même dans son appartement à Saint-Pétersbourg.
A six mois des élections fédérales, Russie unie, le parti au pouvoir, cherche à donner des gages de démocratie en organisant des "primaires" pour sélectionner ses candidats. Mais, dans les faits, l'opposition reste muselée. Alors que la Russie se prépare à des élections législatives prévues le 18 septembre 2016, Russie unie, le parti de Vladimir Poutine, prend les devants.
