Location icon United States

I started my writing career in 2012 when I joined the staff at The Voice-Tribune as a fashion columnist. Now, I write about multiple topics for the publication while also styling and creative directing fashion editorials. I also contribute to Extol magazine as a writer, stylist and photojournalist.

If you want to see my work outside of the print world, check out my blog: The Chic Street. It touches on fashion, food and all things in-between.

Photography by Jacob Roberts. STYLING by Miranda McDonald *What Is a Girl Worth? is the inspiring true story of Rachael’s journey from an idealistic young gymnast to a strong and determined woman who found the courage to raise her voice against evil, even when she thought the world might not listen. This deeply personal and compelling narrative shines a spotlight on the physical and emotional impact of abuse, why so many survivors are reluctant to speak out, what it means to be believed, the...

An Exerpt from The Thurby Diary: - The Voice-Tribune

WRITING by Miranda McDonald *"Use both hands to hold onto the side of the basket, bend your knees and brace for impact. We will be touching down in less than a minute. You may also want to secure your hat," explained the man who was piloting the hot air balloon I was currently riding in.

A Journey Through Hope and Design

WRITING and PHOTOGRAPHY by Miranda McDonald *“It’s difficult to describe this part of India to people, because you can’t understand what this country is really like until you have actually been here and experienced it,” Colleen Clines, the co-founder and CEO of Louisville-based Anchal Project, points out as our vehicle zig-zags its way through livestock, people and the occasional camel. We are with a small group of people that includes Colleen’s mother, her sister, Maggie Clines, who is...

'Opening the Closet' - The Voice-Tribune

WRITING by Miranda McDonald *Art can entice, inspire, captivate and even disturb us. Across the globe, it has the power to transcend time and space and unify people of all backgrounds. Locally, it is the medium one carpenter is utilizing to engage people in a much larger political and social conversation surrounding LGBTQ rights.

Into the Mountains

WRITING and PHOTOGRAPHY by Miranda McDonald *"Are you meeting someone in Jackson Hole?" inquired the lady sitting next to me on the plane. I wondered if she was genuinely curious or simply making conversation because she felt as anxious as I did about the turbulence currently bombarding our tiny aircraft. “No,” I choked out as I tightly gripped the arm rest of my seat. At this point, my stomach felt like it was permanently lodged in my throat. “I am actually spending the week alone.”

Fashion Forward

WRITING by Miranda McDonald ( PDF Download) *The first time I met Frances Lewis, we were sitting in her New Albany studio discussing the debut of her fall collection and first runway show. Not only was the excitement and stress of presenting herself to the community as a credible designer apparent, but so was her unwavering determination to do so for a greater good: The Cabbage Patch Settlement House.

Extra Credit | Linda DeRungs: A Story Three Decades in The Making

WRITING by Miranda McDonald *It's warm outside. So warm, in fact, that the first thing Linda DeRungs, a former educator at New Albany High School, offers me is a glass of chilled wine as we walk through her Victorian-era home in the Highlands in Louisville. As we make our way out to the patio space that overlooks her beautiful garden, I notice several boxes are stacked haphazardly in a corner by a fireplace that sits at the bottom of the staircase in her home. DeRungs and her husband are...

Beargrass: A Skincare Company with A Mission

WRITING by Miranda McDonald *“I have really sensitive skin, and had to learn certain ingredients to avoid in skincare products and laundry detergents at an early age,” explains David Conrad as we stand in his workspace in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville. He has a bottle of essential oil in one hand and a pipette in the other. Conrad is the creator of Beargrass, an all-natural skincare brand he launched a few years ago. He started the company with a single beard oil. Now, the...

So, if you happen to be traveling through this historic place, besides visiting a few of their museums and the George Peabody Library (a total must), you should seriously consider adding Dooby’s restaurant to your list of things to do.

From the Runway. Christian Dior Couture Fall 2016

WRITING by Miranda McDonald *Once the first model strolled down the runway in a full skirt, loose-fitting top and Roman sandal, one instantly knew that Dior’s fall couture collection would carry a very different tone than that of the previous showings from the house, and rightfully so.
