Lisa Farver

Versatile, Incisive and Passionate Copywriter

United States of America

Words enchant me with their power. They have since I was a little girl and I penned my first short story, a fully illustrated account of Frankenstein's childhood. I completed it with my name (and Dewey Decimal numbers) on the side, and presented it to my librarian. Minutes later I found it in the trash.
That taught me a lot about writing for different audiences, taking risks, and accepting potential rough patches.
I'm still as whimsical and optimistic as I was back then, but I've learned to funnel it into a career.

I spent five years as a travel copywriter for Groupon, growing with them as they evolved from their nascent stages and worked through new systems, styles and marketing approaches.

My content included interviews, original articles, web copy, social media posts, and videos.

I've recently branched out to write and edit SEO-driven copy for a variety of industries--from trucking companies, to textbook sellers.

I can turn around original engaging content very quickly. And I'm familiar with CMS and the AP Stylebook.

I think my former librarian would be proud.

Pit Hair; Don't Care

A century ago, women didn't shave their armpits. Prior to the early 20th century, Edwardian fashion was de rigueur, so ladies were clothed from top to toe. Skirts were trimmed with trains, hands were cloaked in gloves, and Gibson girl hairstyles were topped in hats.

Essential Brunch Tips for Vegans

Essential Brunch Tips for Vegans Brunch is big here in Chicago. It's the place where friends come to conversate, commiserate, and cope with mutual hangovers. If you're vegan, you won't be sipping on a bacon-topped Bloody Mary anytime soon, but that doesn't mean you can't dig brunch.

Kinzie Chophouse: Chicago's Female-Owned Steakhouse

Kinzie Chophouse: Chicago's Female-Owned Steakhouse Let's be real: Most people think steak is a dude thing. I recently spoke with Susan Frasca, the only woman who owns a steakhouse in Chicago. She's owned it for 18 years, but people always ask her the same question: "Oh, does your husband own it with you?"

What We Learned About Fashion from Our Parents and Abercrombie

After our roundtable discussion about makeup and beauty last month, I decided to convene a new group of coworkers to talk about another aspect of self-presentation: fashion. Like last time, we gave some shout outs to our favorite brands and looks. But clothes alone don't always tell the whole story.
