Mason psychologists use robot research to explore what makes us human

A future with robots is closer than we think, and a team of professors and students from George Mason University's Department of Psychology are helping to bring that future closer to reality. Eva Wiese, assistant professor in the department, along with five doctoral students and 15 undergraduate students, is studying how to make interacting with a robot similar to interacting with a human.

Two Mason employees receive book scholarships from Faculty Staff Book Scholarship

Pursuing higher education isn't cheap, so a few hundred dollars can go a long way. George Mason University employees Jessica Massie and Laura Titkemeyer received a $250 book scholarship funded by TIAA-CREF's Raise the Rate Contest winnings to help pay for their textbooks while they pursue their degrees at George Mason.

Bringing music to underprivileged communities

What started as a simple project to gather more instruments for George Mason University students quickly blossomed into a program that provides instruments and arts enrichment programs to underserved elementary and middle school students in Northern Virginia. Eight years ago, George Mason's own music students needed additional instruments.

Mapping for malaria prevention

High school and undergraduate students participating in George Mason University's Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP) learned that they can undertake humanitarian efforts from anywhere when they participated in the second annual White House Mapathon. The goal of the Mapathon was to assist in the fight against malaria in Africa.

Biking toward a brighter future

Students in George Mason University's Learning Into Future Environments (LIFE) Program have lost their training wheels thanks to iCan Bike, a five-day program dedicated to teaching people with disabilities how to ride a two-wheel bicycle. "One, two, three, four, go!" shouted a volunteer.
