As as early as 4:45 a.m., carpenters clip in and walk the tracks of the wooden roller coasters, checking every bolt and buttress. Painters put on harnesses and rappel down the steep water slides to ensure everything is in place. Mechanics walk the steel coasters and check the brakes, motors and electronics of every ride.
Despite thunderstorms, rain and a muddy track, 48 bulldogs waddled their way onto the racetrack at Canterbury Park Saturday in the fifth annual Running of the Bulldogs. And 10,894 spectators braved the weather to cheer on the bulldogs, which were separated into four heats and ran a distance of about 49 yards.
A developer that wants to build a 125-unit apartment complex downtown along the Minnesota River has a trash problem to solve. Gaughan Companies spoke about the project Tuesday night to the Shakopee Economic Development Authority and explained that a trash pit was recently discovered under the proposed apartment site at First Avenue and Atwood Street, which could complicate construction if the project is approved.
