A happy ending for neglected animals

by Haley Ray Katrina Greely was six years old when she saw a lion walking around her neighborhood on her way home from school. Her childhood friend's family kept the lion as a pet, and occasionally brought it through the community. "I will never forget walking home one day.

Chapel Hill resident frustrated by parking rules

Haley Ray | Published 03/23/15 11:32pm Chapel Hill resident Mike Holland received a $100 parking ticket in February for parking in front of a fire hydrant at Mediterranean Deli. He has been working to appeal his ticket on the grounds that the hydrant was camouflaged by potted plants and faded paint.

Chapel Hill Historic Society raising $5K for move to library

Haley Ray | Published 02/17/15 11:24pm The money would cover the expense of organizing archives and cleaning newspapers, photos and maps, said Society Board Member Thomas Jepsen. The society has more than 1,000 Chapel Hill newspapers and an extensive collection of documents dating back to 1923, all of which have to be cleaned and preserved before moving.

For public employees, a lower rent through new apartment incentive program

Haley Ray | Published 03/31/15 12:24am The incentive program offers lower rent rates at two Eller Capital properties, The Apartments at Midtown 501 and the 86 North Apartments. For eligible employees, the rental savings range from $2,000 to $3,050 on a 12-month lease and application fees are waived.
