'At the moment my arthritis is under control and I'm able to play at a high level'

LIVING WITH RHEUMATOID arthritis, studying full time in University College Dublin while competing at the highest level in her sport; it's been a whirlwind year for Monaghan's Ciara McDermott. McDermott, who was pivotal throughout UCD's O'Connor Cup campaign, has suffered with her arthritis over the past few years but won't let it get in the way of her successful football career.

Union criticises Trinity recruitment

Trinity College Dublin's (TCD) scheme for recruiting new academics has been criticised heavily for being "outside of traditional public service recruitment arrangements." TCD plan to fill 40 academic posts through international recruitment in the next month.

DCU Ladies qualify for O'Connor Cup weekend

O'Connor Cup quarter-final DCU 3-18 Queen's University Belfast 1-11 DCU qualified for the O'Connor Cup weekend on Thursday night, February 25th, after seeing off Queen's University Belfast in an exciting encounter. It was an injury to Queen's and Armagh star Aimee Mackin in the second half that was the main turning point of the game....

RAG-ing Bulls at the Rumble in the Venue

A night of blood, sweat and (very few) tears - DCU Raising and Giving Society society hosted its annual and prestigious RAG Rumble event in The Venue on Wednesday, November 25th. The fight night saw 16 sets of fighters square up in the ring in aid of RAG's social projects.

Event encourages female SU election candidates

A 'Women in Leadership' event in the Old Bar last week encouraged female students to run in the upcoming DCU Student's Union (SU) election. The student level programme 'Inform', ran by Women For Election was developed to tackle the problem of lower participation by females in politics.

Accountancy Learning centre proposed at business school hustings

Business Faculty Rep Hustings took place in The Venue on Thursday. Niall Behan, Christine Farrell, Michelle Hayden and Louise McLarnon hope to be elected to the position on Wednesday. Behan plans to introduce an Acountancy Learning Centre, similar to to the Maths Learning Centre on campus.

VOLUNTEERING OVERSEAS: MY STORY

I travelled to Honduras in January with Global Brigades DCU on a Water and Public Health Brigade. When I started college, I promised myself that I wouldn't leave without volunteering abroad. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Fifteen of us met at Dublin Airport, most of us having never spoken before.
