2 divergent views on 'Conversion Therapy'

RICHMOND, Va. - "For fifteen years of my life, I experienced unwanted same-sex attractions," Christopher Doyle said. Doyle grew up with strained relationships with his parents. He said he couldn't bond with his father, whom he characterizes as "not a bad man" but emotionally absent: "It set me up on a trajectory of not really being able to bond and connect with my peers and my male friends."

Confederate plane flies over Richmond during UCI Road World Championships

RICHMOND, Va. -- As the Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality spoke out about the 2015 UCI Road World Championships race route along Monument Avenue, home to several monuments honoring Confederate figures, a plane flew overhead carrying a banner which read "Confederate heros matter" [sic]. The plane circled continually overhead with the misspelled slogan.

Trump supporters and protesters clash at Richmond rally

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. - Several altercations between Donald Trump supporters and protesters broke out at Wednesday evening's rally at the main exhibition hall at Richmond International Raceway. After Trump addressed immigration issues in his speech and said "We're going to build the wall," a huge cheer went up from the crowd as well as some boos.

What foreigners think about Confederate symbols along the bike race route

RICHMOND, Va. - As international visitors are coming to Richmond for the UCI Road World Championship, concern among activists is increasing that Confederate imagery around the city will dampen its reputation. "It's going to be an international issue when people start coming in here from 62 countries and saying, 'Really?'" said Phil Wilayto, a founding member of the Richmond Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality.

Undocumented students gain in-state tuition benefits in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. - Although he graduated high school with a 4.02 GPA and scholarship offers, his lack of a social security number meant Cristian Lemus was unable to work, get a license and pay for college. Lemus moved with his family from Guatemala City to Harrisonburg in 2006.
