Ashleigh Hensch

Writer

United States

At a glance, I am a wife and mother with a Bachelor's in English and a love for writing in all its forms.

For more depth, I attended multiple colleges and universities starting at age 16 as I moved from place to place due to my father's military career. From Pierce College, WA to University of Texas at El Paso and finally Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. It was at Cameron that I was introduced to the wonderful world of technical writing. I discovered that my love of writing non-fiction could be utilized as actual, employable work by taking complex concepts and translating them into something the average reader can understand. I particularly love taking technology and software concepts and turning them into words that average users of any experience level can grasp.

Now, I work for my local government's emergency management office as their public information officer. There is a lot of social science behind the crafting of emergency public messaging, and I am using all my skills as a writer to that end. It requires intuitive audience analysis and experience in fine tuning my writing for that audience.

In my own time, I love being with my family (toddlers are such fun), writing and preparing content for my Pathfinder campaign, and practicing Taekwondo with my husband.

This is a tutorial I created to show other emergency management offices how to utilize Marplot (a free EPA program) to capture, save, and visualize storm shelter registrations.
