Think that you just have to be in NY or LA to see a great DJ perform? Think again. Philadelphia has been thriving with a wide range of artists in the electronic realm over the past few decades, and this city of brotherly love has been called home by top acts along the lines of Diplo, Jazzy Jeff, Josh Wink, and the late DJ AM.
To those of you who are not familiar with songwriter's Phil Elverum's work, you may find that this is a difficult time time to begin listening. Elverum, formerly known as a principal member of indie band The Microphones , began his musical project titled Mount Eerie back in 2003.
I hate winter, but I love a good acoustic album. Thankfully, when it comes to acoustic artists there is no shortage of it in my small town area. I was able to discover the talents of local songwriter Rob Adams and his newest solo endeavor titled The Good Veins.
Last weekend Founders Entertainment brought back the annual Meadows music and arts festival to NYC for it's 2nd year in a row. The fest, which took place at Citi fields in the heart of Queens, was praised last year as being one of NYC's "...most enjoyable concert going experience in years" by Business Insider, and after witnessing the 3 day gig for myself, I can see Meadows as becoming one of the city's future top mainstays.
Sleigh Bells has built something of its own universe in six short years. They emerged from the ether, slammed together in a Southside Billyburg big bang, mixed some dirty Jersey and post punk DNA in four forceful albums, signed to M.I.A.'s N.E.E.T.
The countdown is on for festival season! For the past few months music events across the country have been announcing their line-ups and activities for what they're bringing to the table for 2018, and one of those festivals includes Michigan's one of a kind Electric Forest.
Dover Delaware's annual Firefly festival have announced their return to the Woodlands for 2018! This four-day camping and music event will feature top headliners such as Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys, and The Killers. Also included in the lineup are ODESZA, Martin Garrix, Portugal the Man, and Foster the People.
If I'm being honest here, when it comes to electronic dance music shows, production value can get stale pretty quickly. Since having a few raves under my belt, I've witnessed this unfortunate "cookie-cutter syndrome" first hand, which involves otherwise talented producers falling into the trap of using similar song layouts and patterns for the sole sake of appealing to certain trends.
Genre-smashing rabble rousers Enter Shikari played to a packed house at The Union Transfer this past Saturday night with support from acts MILK TEETH and Single Mothers.
