As an undocumented DREAMer and an LGBT+ individual, my fiction and culture pieces are heavily influenced by my experience as member of different communities considered to be minorities in the U.S. In addition, I like to explore LGBT+ presence in the media in order to bring attention to forms of entertainment featuring accurate representation, more specifically of queer women of color.
For the LGBTQIA community, "chosen families" are essential in a world where acceptance comes at a premium. We must often turn to like-minded queer and queer-ally individuals to find support in a world that still too-often works against us.
The crime genre is in the midst of a reboot, and it's female as hell. From Widows and Ocean's 8 on the big screen, to Big Little Lies being one of the most anticipated shows to return on television, women in crime are having a moment, but it's shows like Killing Eve and Good Girls that are taking the genre and turning it into something completely new.

If Pedro Almodovar ever decided he wanted to make a Mexican telenovela, chances are, something very close to The House of Flowers would be the end result. Not to downplay writer-director and show creator Manolo Caro’s originality, because his work is wildly original and lush, but much like Almodovar, Caro’s style is provocative and unapologetic.
