Ailsa Adams

Freelance Journalist

United Kingdom

I am a freelance journalist currently working with Bauer Media writing for Mother & Baby. Though I often write about children, I am keen to put my skills to good use on any writing task. I am a research geek to the extreme with lots of interests from music and TV to rugby and cars to history!

I recently graduated with an MA Distinction in Journalism from the University of Lincoln. Late to the game, though better late than never, I fitted the studying around my three young children and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well maybe not balancing the work with home-schooling and a national pandemic, but mostly it was great.

I enjoy blogging in my spare time about motherhood, it has led to some interesting conversations including two radio interviews on lockdown with children.

How to grow lavender

Lavender is a beautiful evergreen shrub that is easy to grow and maintain, making it a wonderful choice for your garden or terrace. Dating back over 2500 years, the name is taken from the Latin word "Lavare" which means "to wash" as Romans used it in their baths.

Garden love seats for your patio or lawn

Love seats are the perfect addition to your garden to sit out in the sunshine during the summer months. The seats generally don't take up too much room and are often wooden or metal making them hard wearing. To add a pop of colour, you could also add some pretty seat cushions.

How to knit a scarf

Knitting has made a serious come-back in recent years and gained some street cred. Anyone who is anyone can be heard tapping away their needles, including celebrities like Julia Roberts and Ryan Gosling. The benefits are seemingly never-ending as it helps with dexterity, brain function, concentration and stress to name just a few important reasons to take up this pastime.

Best desk lamps to brighten your office space

Desk lamps are different to other lamps as they have flexibility to move the light around the space to suit your needs. Some take incandescent bulbs but more modern lamps are using LED to avoid eye strain and allow greater choice over light brightness and colour.

Mediterranean diet recipes

The Mediterranean diet isn't a diet as such but more of a lifestyle change based around eating certain food groups more than others across the week. Starchy carbohydrates can be eaten daily and include whole grains, bread, beans, pasta and nuts. Fresh fruits and vegetables are to be enjoyed in abundance daily too.
