A good neighbor

By Abby Petersen At 10:15 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Bethel University, the post office closes. The library lights flicker, then turn off and the doors are locked. The Royal Grounds coffee shop in the Brushaber Commons closes its folding gate. The university is buzzing with activity, but its offices are closed.

Woman killed after grass fire in Fairburn spreads to home

FAIRBURN | James Pawelski watched smoke rise from what remained of his home Tuesday morning and stamped out a cigarette. His mind was numb. Authorities had found a body inside the home, and Pawelski feared it could be that of his 26-year-old daughter.

Red Cloud graduate accepted to Ivy League schools

He picked up the hitchhiker near Pine Ridge after school. It was something he wasn't supposed to do, not according to his parents, who warned him about murderers and muggers disguised as people just seeking a ride. Dusk had begun to fall over the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and the hitchhiker was drunk.

New Americans symbol of future

Sister Mariana Moreno wore plain white sneakers under her habit the day she became an American. Black, white and red fabric hugged her from head to toe as she stood Thursday for the Pledge of Allegiance at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, even though the temperature was almost 80 degrees.
