Ulviyya Asadzade received her masters’ degree in journalism at Baku State University in 2008. In 2011 she completed her Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship at Kent State University
in the US.
She started working as a reporter in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2000, after she graduated from high school. In 2004 Ulviyya was promoted to the position of the Social and Economic Division at “525-ci qezet”, one of the biggest local newspapers.
From 2005-to 2010 Ulviyya worked as an investigative reporter, a multimedia reporter and as an
anchor of the two –hour political live show at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Azerbaijani service.
In 2006 Ulviyya had a special training at headquarters of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (Prague, Czech Republic) for six months attending different workshop as a part of her professional development.
As a part of her Edmund S.Muskie Fellowship, Ulviyya interned with Voice of America (Azerbaijani service) and Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C in 2011.
Ulviyya has closely worked with international media: She has worked for Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Baku and contributed to eurasinet.org
Ulviyya has worked as a local producer/fixer for Al -Jazeera- English, Arte, CCTV in Baku.
She taught a journalism course at University of Foreign Languages, Journalism School in 2013.
As a media specialist at IREX, Ulviyya conducted multimedia trainings for citizen and mid-career professional journalists, initiated and executed media development programs, produced success stories for IREX.
Does urban renewal signify progress? That question has dogged city planners worldwide for decades. And nowhere is the matter more pertinent these days than in Baku, the Caspian seaside capital of Azerbaijan. Thanks to a massive cash infusion generated by energy exports, Baku has experienced a building boom over the past decade.

Despite the increasing penetration of the internet in Azerbaijan, there continues to be a paucity of websites and media outlets pursuing multimedia reporting. For a bright up-and-coming young photographer like Aziz Karimli, this was a problem. "In Azerbaijan, there are a lot of websites that only use text," Karimli said.
"Genclerin sesi" - Voice of Youth is an internet-based radio which mainly employs journalism students. With a recent sub-grant from the Azerbaijan New Media Project (ANMP) it started a weekly online TV news bulletin. The USAID-funded ANMP is implemented by IREX.
This video is about how the internet kiosk has become useful in the remote village of Fatalikand, Saatli, where only 90 families out of up to 500 have Internet at home. Although online access in Azerbaijan is growing, Internet services, in particular in the regions, remain expensive.
