How "Broad City" is the voice millennial women need

In a time when politics dominates almost every aspect of our lives, watching Broad City presents a fun and engaging way to stay up-to-date with the current state of US government administration. The general synopsis of the show is that it's about two girls in their twenties trying to live their best lives while navigating relationships, jobs and family in New York City.

When the headline popped up on my newsfeed that Aziz Ansari had been in a less-than-consensual sexual encounter, my first thought was "please, not another one." But after looking into the issue, it's apparent this situation is much more complicated than what's on the surface.

A story of a real life 'Catfish'

It turns out that Nev and Max's hunt for internet frauds on Catfish isn't just the basis of an American reality show. It also happens in our very own Queen's community. For those who haven't had much experience with online dating, 'catfishing' is a term used to describe the phenomenon where someone lies to another person online about who they are.

March For Our Lives touched on more than just school shooting violence

This Saturday marked a new era for gun control. Students from the recent Parkland shooting hosted a march in Washington, D.C. on Mar. 24 to show politicians they're serious about fighting for changes to gun legislation. The march brought out an estimated 200,000 people, included celebrities Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Kim Kardashian and North and Kanye West.

With humble roots as a North American take on classic Hispanic telenovelas, Jane the Virgin has grown into a show that hits hard on political issues. Jane the Virgin begins as a charming show revolving around the main character Jane getting accidentally artificially inseminated with a rich hotel owner's baby.

The problem with romantic comedies

When I was younger, I loved romantic comedies. The idea of that initial spark, the inevitable complications to overcome and the eventual happy ending of falling in love gave me such hope and happiness for what the future could hold in terms of my romantic life.

From FDR to Trump

"It was very interesting when the election happened and for some people here it wasn't real for them, when it was real for me." Myriam Bouti, ConEd and Music '18, is a Canada-born citizen but spent most of her life in Vermont. "It was interesting to see how involved on Facebook my Canadian friends were," she added.

How doctor assisted death is changing in Kingston

A lengthy legal process reached a conclusion in June when Bill C-14 made medically assisted death legal in Canada. Kingston General Hospital (KGH), located on the south side of Queen's campus was one of the first hospitals in the country to begin carrying out the legislation.

Doctoring a different path

Traditionally medical students exclusively came from science backgrounds. However, due to evolving admission requirements for medical schools, the background of these students is at its most diverse. Dr. John Boyd, an assistant professor of neurology and critical care at Queen's took a slightly unconventional academic path to get where he is today.
