Tower 4 to close for updates

Tower 4 is set to undergo aesthetic renovations and infrastructure improvements this summer, starting as soon as residents leave in May. Student suites and bathrooms will be updated along with the rest of the building, and a sprinkler system will be added for the first time.

International Education Week celebrates cultures, diversity

Buffalo State College will join other institutions across the country and the world in celebrating International Education Week. International Education Week is a joint initiative by the United States Department of State and United States Department of Education and is celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Buffalo State to accept Say Yes to Education high school graduates

President Aaron Podolefsky announced during the State of the College address last month that the college would be admitting all qualified students through the Say Yes to Education program starting with the fall 2013 semester. Say Yes to Education Buffalo, which was launched in December 2011, became the second chapter to partner with an entire school district.

School of Professions launches national search for new dean

A national search for a permanent dean of the School of Professions is currently underway. Dr. Kevin Mulcahy, Chair of Hospitality and Tourism and Interim Dean for more than three years, has resigned Dr. James Mayrose, Chair of Engineering Technology and chair of the search committee said Mulcahy thought it was important that the School have a permanent dean going forward.

Program grants chance to study nationwide

Students who want to get away from Buffalo for a while have the opportunity to do so with the National Student Exchange program. The NSE is a non-profit organization that offers study away opportunities to students, with choices from over 200 different universities in the United States, U.S. territories and Canada available.

Students live in lofts

Due to the closure of Tower Four for renovations, Buffalo State students without housing on campus were forced to relocate to the Lofts at 136 in downtown Buffalo at the start of the fall The Lofts at 136, a student housing complex on North Division Street, was chosen to house approximately 170 students, the majority being incoming transfer students.

NYPIRG Student voter drive begins

With the United States presidential elections just a month and a half away, the New York Public Interest Research Group is actively focusing on getting students registered for this year's vote. NYPIRG has partnered with a few other organizations on campus to assist in efforts to register 2,000 students before the Oct.

New York still plagued by Sandy

The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy is still being felt throughout New York, even though residents are trying to go back to their normal lives. SUNY has partnered with The American Red Cross to assist in the recovery efforts. They are encouraging the SUNY family to help any way possible by donating money, giving blood or by volunteering their time.

UPSA program assists with security

The University Police Students' Assistant program, working along with the University Police Department, has been providing security and patrols on Buffalo State's campus since the 1970s. The program, which started with approximately 15 criminal justice majors whose main duties involved night patrols, has increased to 70 students with different majors.
