Results of ten year yeast gene study shows promise for combating age-related disease

Scientists at the University of Washington and Buck Institute for Research on Aging have finished a protracted, exhaustive ten year effort to identify 238 genes that, when removed, increase the replicative lifespan of S. cerevisiae yeast cells. The scientists studied 4698 yeast strains, counting yeast cells and monitoring the effects of removing and blocking single genes.
