First Houston-area baby of 2022 was 'born with a purpose,' mother says

Johanna Ortiz prayed for her first child to be born healthy. The 41-year-old woman's pregnancy was deemed high risk because of her age. So when doctors at Harris Health System's Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital noted her elevated blood pressure on Friday, they decided Ortiz needed to deliver immediately by cesarean section - more than a week before her scheduled due date.

Houston hospital says 'if you're not on death's door,' you'll likely have to wait for a room

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Hospital emergency rooms across the city say they are operating at or above bed-space capacity. Houston Methodist Hospital told ABC13 they are having to treat patients in hallways and waiting rooms. Meanwhile, Harris Health System said LBJ Hospital has been operating under an 'internal disaster' code on an on-and-off basis since Sunday.
