Melissa J. Carroll

Freelance Writer

United States

From working as a “slimer” in a fish cannery in Alaska, to teaching English in Japan, to interning with the New York Times, Melissa J. Carroll explored a wide range of fields and careers before working as a freelance writer in Houston. A graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in art history, and a master’s in education from the University of Southern Maine, Melissa has 20 plus years of work experience, including 12 years in media relations in Houston. She previously promoted the Houston Ballet as public relations manager, served as public relations director for a nonprofit, and as a media relations specialist for Vinson & Elkins, one of the one of the leading energy law firms in the nation. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, looking for fun activities to do in Houston. She also enjoys exploring the public library and maritime museums – an interest she developed during yet another summer job as a camp counselor at the Maine Maritime Museum.
