As cliché as this may sound, college is a time for us to shape and reshape our opinions in order to develop our personal identity in society. We rarely talk about what exactly makes college a good outlet to do this.
In Issue 4 of The Signal, we printed a letter written by Associated Students, Inc. President Mariam Salameh and Vice President Marvin Hooker. The student representatives' purpose was to share their "frustration about the lack of campus unity, lack of collaboration, lack of effective communication necessary to move the university forward and most importantly, the failure to acknowledge that students are the most important stakeholders to this university."
Locally, volunteers, organizations and government representatives joined Brian Pekari, founder of Tracy United to Make a Difference, in an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting. "It could be as little as giving compliments to someone today, paying it forward, to spending hours cleaning up a park," Pekari said.

The Bud Light sponsored Arm Wrestling Tournament took center stage at the Apricot Fiesta last Saturday with at least 100 participants testing their strength in front of a roaring crowd of onlookers. The competition was divided into five categories: Men's Open Right, Men's Open Left, Men's Amateur Right, Men's Amateur Left, and Women's Right.
"The basic premise of the project was to see how environmental conditions affect electric arcs' past behavior," Munir said. This year marks the third time variations of his research have qualified for state-level competition. "I've never been to International before," Munir said. "It promises to be whatever state is but on steroids."
It is a promise that Susanne Goias, mother of 18-year-old Madison, was eager for her daughter to pursue. "The program encourages the kids to focus and do well in high school," Susanne Goias said. Madison Goias just graduated from Kimball High School and planned early on in her high school career to take advantage of the promise made to her eight years ago.
