The Jaguars have won two of the past four state championships, and coach Jared Drexler's 2016 team looks primed to compete for another trophy to add to a full trophy case.
The Northwood Chargers defeated the Fike Golden Demons by a final score of 10-4 on Wednesday evening in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A softball playoffs. The Demons started the scoring with two runs in the top of the third.

It's May, which means it is time for the Maryland women's lacrosse program to get to work. Earlier this week, the Terrapins (18-1) earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It is the team's sixth straight No. 1 seed.
It is their program and their first trip to the Final Four, too, so it's fitting they jumped over the tiny metal fence and danced with joy onto the field to celebrate with the Navy women's lacrosse team.
After 35 years, maybe the wins start to blend together a little bit. After all, Navy women's lacrosse coach Cindy Timchal has won 491 games, which makes her the NCAA's all-time leader in career wins in Division I women's college lacrosse.

On Tuesday, the Greensboro Swarm held their first-ever Media Day on the floor of the Greensboro Coliseum. Head Coach Noel Gillespie spoke for 20 minutes with the media, and players made the rounds while also getting acclimated to their new teammates and facilities in Greensboro. The days of defense being an afterthought in the NBA are long gone. Teams have created advanced analytics that track defensive stats far beyond just blocks and steals, and the media is starting to come around and reward players who excel on defense, all the while scolding those who struggle.
