Extinction Rebellion Cambridge
On 24th May 2022, Extinction Rebellion activists shut down Shell’s shareholder AGM in London. They joined activists all over the world protesting against Shell’s disregard for life. One of the activists in the conference hall said, “We remember Ken Saro-Wiwa, we remember the Ogoni Nine.”
Last week, with little fanfare, the UK Government announced its ten-point plan for a “Green Industrial Revolution”. Although it falls far short of Extinction Rebellion’s demand to decarbonise by 2025, the plan nevertheless sounds impressive at first glance, including commitments to phase out sales of new petrol and diesel cars and vans, and supply all of the UK’s electricity needs from offshore wind, by 2030.
It’s hard to believe that just 3 months ago, rebels were beginning the biggest and most disruptive protest Cambridge has seen since Reclaim the Streets in 1996. SOS Children's Villages
Women living in the Gambia's Foni Jarrol district face a raft of problems, from forced marriage and violence in the home to a lack of economic self-reliance brought on by poor education and entrenched discrimination. With financial backing from the European Union and UK supporters, our local Gambian team are collaborating with partner charities to launch a new three-year project designed to reduce gender inequality.
