I am currently a senior at Emerson College, majoring in Journalism. I have been working for the Boston Post Gazette, a weekly newspaper based in the North End of Boston for the past year: reviewing and editing submissions and submitting articles myself. I also interned for Eco News Network, an online news source about all things ecological. This experience allowed me to understand online news networks and how to adapt writing in this venue, which allows us to reach millions of people. I am a firm believer of the internet as an education and enlightening tool that can be used across nations and cultures.
My interest in journalism started at an early age. I was born and half raised in Venezuela, a country where the media is under constant attack by the official government. The Inter American Press Association has raised its concern over violations of human rights and limitations in freedom of speech. As in many other countries, journalist play a protagonist role in shaping the events.
October marks the 10th annual Fair Trade Month highlighting the need for individuals, companies and brands to take care of our planet and all of its inhabitants. Throughout the month, ethically minded consumers, retailers and brands will unite to emphasize the need not only to buy fair, but also to be fair.
Eco News Network features this interview with Kathleen LeBlanc-Hood of LUSH as part of our October Ethical Consuming series. LUSH is a franchise model that sells organic beauty products and is committed to environmental preservation a nd, of course, making a profit.
November 19, 2013 South America is a continent rich with natural resources, dense forests, and a wide range of wildlife. Most of the continent's countries started environmental initiatives in the beginning of the 1980′s creating national parks and a few protected areas.
If you live or work in Boston, you've most likely noticed a number of artsy globes along the Boston Common on Tremont Street. You may want to take a closer look. More than just cool street art, the globes are part of a traveling art exhibition called: "Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet."
