The cruel reality of 50 Shades of Grey | The Gryphon

There's something incredibly frightening about Fifty Shades of Grey, and it's nothing to do with the awful new cinematic adaptation. Whilst it seems that E.L James' novel has been softened up for the big screen, it must not be forgiven that the source material remains a story about a vulnerable young woman being taken in by a sociopathic man who systematically abuses her.

One scandal too many: why Clarkson had to go | The Gryphon

Following fifteen days of speculation, over a million signatures on an e-petition and a couple of idiots in a tank outside Number 10, the decision has made: Jeremy Clarkson has been sacked. It's a victory for common sense more than anything, but there is likely to be a groundswell of public protest now that Top Gear's resident reigning curmudgeon has been dethroned.

Oscar Round-Up: Best Actor/ Actress | The Gryphon

Once again a great year in film is reduced to a rather bland set of Oscar nominees, to the surprise of absolutely no one. All ten are white, all are European or American, and any hopes film fans had for even a smidgeon of diversity went out the window with the baffling snub of David Oyelowo for his portrayal of Martin Luther King in Selma.

There has been no shortage of films focusing on the advent of A.I. recently, from Ex Machina released in January to the hotly-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron which will be released at the end of April. Somewhere in the middle sits Chappie, the third directorial outing from South African director Neill Blomkamp, best known for directing the Oscar-nominated sci-fi hit District 9.

Film | Foxcatcher Preview - delving into the heart of darkness | The Gryphon

Foxcatcher starts and ends with a fight. It is Channing Tatum - he of G.I Joe and Magic Mike fame - that opens and closes the latest film from Moneyball director Bennett Miller. Not Steve Carell, in impressive prosthetics exuding an intangible darkness, nor the reassuring Mark Ruffalo with his easy charm and affability that enamours audiences to him almost immediately.
