Smaller independent energy firms a 'cheaper alternative' to big six Consumers are increasingly switching away from the big six energy suppliers and searching for cheaper deals from smaller firms, an independent energy supplier has claimed. Economy Energy says that it has seen its customer base increase by 45% since the energy price hikes last year.
Energy UK have announced that a record number of domestic and business customers are switching away from the big six energy companies and switching to smaller suppliers like Economy Energy. The newest switching figures show that customers are continuing to shop around for the best energy deal, with 265,000 changing electricity supplier in March this year.
